Absence x Grieg

Two opposites meet; Grieg's national romantic classics and breaking's modern and urban expression.
On stage, we meet five dancers who explore Grieg's musical universe through dance and movement. The well-known masterpieces are given a modernized interpretation. The dancers have researched the creative process: What process did Grieg undergo? Can it be compared to a dancer's creative process? Or perhaps the process can be likened to life itself, something we can all relate to?
Joining Absence on stage is live musician/composer Kato Ådland from Bergen. This collaboration has resulted in an exciting interpretation of Grieg's creative universe through music, dance, and improvisation. A playful and imaginative interpretation of the fantastic music.
How did the music come about? Did the notes come to Grieg on their own? The performance is a deep dive into the body's ability to express and demonstrate the powerful interplay between dance and music, interpretations of Grieg's emotions and inner processes set in motion, conveyed with intensity, creativity, and humor.
Absence and Ådland both challenge and explore Grieg's music. Absence hopes to spark curiosity among children and young people for the classical music of composer Grieg, and, not least, to inspire and ignite curiosity for breaking, which is Absence's great passion.
This year, Absence celebrates its 25th anniversary with this brand new performance.
